Maybank GO Ahead Challenge 2014 Campus Level at Sunway University

“I’ve learnt a lot in this short period of time especially as a committee member for this year’s Maybank GO Ahead Challenge 2014”, said Nico Fernando, Sunway College’s Victoria University alumnus now in the Global Maybank Apprentice Programme. In last year’s challenge, Nico emerged First Runner-Up with his team.

For this year’s challenge, Sunway University is one of 15 campuses in the region for the Campus Level stage. Sixty-eight participants, thirty from Sunway University went through various challenges lined up for the day; the GO Ahead Hunt, GO Ahead Select, GO Ahead Shine and the GO Ahead Pitch. The students under Sunway University were students from the Lancaster University, Victoria University and ACCA programmes.

Sunway University Treats Teachers to a Special Tropical Hawaiian Paradise

In conjunction with Teachers Day, Sunway University treated 131 teachers, principals and counsellors from several schools around the Klang Valley to a special afternoon of “Tropical Hawaiian Paradise”.

The event was organised by students from the Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Management (CTHCM). They transformed the University Hall into a tropical paradise for the luau (traditional Hawaiian feast). Guests were greeted with a lei (necklace of flower) each, warm smiles and the spirit of Aloha, complete with hula dancers.

Sunway’s Return Tray Campaign

“Buy, Eat, Bus” is a return tray campaign (RTC) organised by students and staff of Sunway’s Department of Communication and Liberal Arts together with Sunway’s Health and Safety Department.

The campaign aims at inculcating the culture of clearing and returning trays after meals among Sunway’s students to help maintain a clean cafeteria for all. The president of RTC, Nicholas Hoe Wei Nian who is pursuing his BA (Hons) in Communication, specialising in Public Relations Project Management hopes to “Raise as much as 80 percent of cleanliness awareness among my peers on campus.”

Peer Counselling Conference 2014

The Sunway Student Services Department, in collaboration with the Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers (PCV) and the Sunway University Psychology Club, recently organised the Peer Counselling Conference 2014. The 2-day conference was held at the Sunway University Graduate Centre and attended by 170 students from local and private universities from across Malaysia.
