Sunway University’s Vice-Chancellor on the Science of Satellite Remote Sensing

Inspired by Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon and the space race, Professor Graeme Wilkinson found himself fascinated with science especially astrophysics.

In his lecture on Monitoring the Earth from Space-The Science of Satellite Remote Sensing, Professor Wilkinson examined the monitoring progress of Earth’s environment from space over the last 40 years.

Sunway’s CISA Club Welcomes New Members

Sunway’s Chinese Independent School Alumni (CISA) Club welcomed 40 new members earlier this year with an orientation headed by Mook Chia Chun, Student Advisor for the club. Activities included an ice-breaking session allowing current and new members a chance to get to know each other better. Malory, an alumna of the ACCA programme at Sunway TES was on hand to share her working experience. She encouraged all to participate in CISA Club’s activities as the experience gained through extra-curricular activities will help when they go out to work in the corporate world.

Sunway University Students Experience an Alternative to Classroom Learning

Eight students from Sunway University’s Department of Art and Design (DAD) recently went on an exciting alternative classroom-based learning 10-day study trip to Taiwan. The trip, led by Augustine Wong, Head of the Department of Art and Design, was planned to provide students an insight into the creative design industry across Taiwan and to provide the students with a broader view of design in preparation for their final graduation show. In preparing for the trip, the students who were mainly from the Interior Design programme were required to conduct a preliminary research in obtaining background information on the places they were to visit.

First stop Taipei, to visit the Young Designers’ Exhibition (YODEX), one of the region’s biggest events representing the entire design sector, featuring innovative designs by young design talents from various design sectors of industrial design, architecture design, media and communication design, interior design, visual communication design and much more. There, the Sunway University students were exposed to a wide range of ideas and concepts in the design industry today.

Installation of the new Sunway Student Council 2014

“Sunway University is a global village. Among you, our students are representatives from many countries. As members of the Student Council, you are their representatives and their spokesperson, their “official voice”. You will need to help them share their ideas, interests and concerns, and represent them to the best of your abilities”, said Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group addressing the Sunway Student Council at the recent installation ceremony.

This year, the new Student Council members has expressed that they will focus on reaching out and collaborating with other student bodies at Sunway, to ensure and maintain a flow of good relations in an effort to do more for the benefit and enrichment of all on campus.

Sunway Students Trip to India to Help the Poor

A group of students from the Centre of American Education (CAE) in Sunway University embarked on a self-funded trip to India with the mission to help the underprivileged community in Belukurichi. Prior to that, the group of seven students had organised various fund-raising activities for the community. A total collection of RM17,000 was used to buy items to be donated to the community such as school uniforms, school bags, stationary, books, furniture such as tables and chairs, and confectionary.
