Learn Leadership Reflectively Using the Art Gallery Concept

Tired of essays and reports? Why not participate in an art gallery? 143 students from BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, BSc (Hons) Business Management and BSc (Hons) Business Studies did just that when they were assigned with the creative, reflective and experiential project “The Leadership Identity Journey”.

The project, part of their coursework for the Leadership module, was held during the August 2014 semester. The students worked together in small teams to design and create A1 size ‘poster collage quilts’ to demonstrate their understanding of leadership in a hands-on creative way. Their work was then exhibited through an art gallery approach at the Graduate Centre.

Building on Sunway University’s successful collaboration with Lancaster University in delivering the MBA Dual Award programme, the recent Financial Times World MBA ranking has cemented this premier league MBA as Malaysia’s leading programme. In the 2015 Financial Times (FT) ranking, published on 26 January 2015, the Lancaster MBA has recorded strong progress, jumping 27 places to 50th in the world. This is a standout performance relative to other MBAs in Malaysia. Besides, the FT ranks the Lancaster MBA 9th in the United Kingdom (UK), and 18th in Europe.

As the Chinese saying goes, “Good Things Come in Double”, the FT World MBA Ranking has also ranked the Lancaster MBA 1st in the world in the teaching of corporate strategy. Other would class achievements of the Lancaster MBA as reported by the recent FT World MBA Ranking include 1st in the UK and 2nd in the world for ‘aims achieved’, i.e. this is the only metric in the FT World MBA Ranking that measures what MBA alumni think of the quality of the course, and their experience being a student in the course. Moreover, Lancaster MBA also shows encouraging improvement in the areas of the weighted salary (up 10% on last year), career progress and placement success, and the international course experience measure which has made a substantial progress by 17 places.

Professor Sue Cox, Dean of Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), praised her colleagues in the MBA team for their commitment to the programme; and congratulated the MBA alumni on their career success which propelled Lancaster’s rise in the rankings. She added: “Our improvement in the Financial Times ranking is down to an exceptional MBA programme which attracts excellent students and is delivered by world-leading faculty. It confirms our position as a leading global business school”.

At a recent MBA industry networking dinner at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, Professor Brian Imrie, Associate Dean (Postgraduate Studies), of Sunway University announced this notable achievement. The dinner is part of Sunway University’s efforts to enhance the learning and employability prospects of students within the MBA dual award programme. For students present, the FT rankings confirmed they had made the right choice in selecting Malaysia's premier MBA. The dinner also featured a special talk by Professor Datuk Razali Mahfar on “Extraordinary Leadership and Strategic Management Competencies – Driving Sustainable Growth”.
