Sunway University (Sunway) through its School of Computer Technology (SCT) is the first Malaysian higher institution to offer a joint certification with SAS Institute Inc. USA (SAS) in its Information Systems degree course. Sunway will offer a specialization in the area of Business Intelligence and Data Mining.
The international joint certificate endorsed by SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, will be issued to students who successfully complete the requirement for the two subjects starting this year.
In addition, students who complete the second year will be eligible to join a fully-paid study tour to an overseas SAS Office in Korea, Japan, Mauritius or Australia. The tour which will be limited to 20 students per group will take about 7-10 days and all flight, meals and accommodation will be fully covered by the School of Computer Technology. Besides understanding SAS better, the tour will provide cultural exposure as well.
Sunway has chosen SAS as its strategic tool for teaching Information Systems degree courses for its under-graduates. SAS will allow the university to ensure students have the best skills and knowledge to enhance their competitive standing in the job market, thus enhancing the employability of its graduates.
Sunway University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Bignall said “The Business Intelligence and Data Mining subjects will expose SCT students to a real world data set and challenges, giving students the chance to hone their skills and gain valuable experience in the project”.
“SAS specialists, industry experts and academics from the Sunway will work together to ensure quality and delivery of the subjects which will result in an ecosystem of sustainable collaboration between a university and the industry” he added.
With the doubling of data at increasing speed in today’s world, Business Analytics is becoming very important in providing crucial insights for companies to make informed decisions. The SAS certification helps to provide a pool of qualified resources accessible to corporations which is a great benefit for both students and corporations.
The skill of data mining and business analytic is indeed a true value for a information systems student. With the growth of data and the need to make a well informed decision, the talent in the area of business intelligence and data mining is extremely in short of.
