The celebration began with an opening gambit from the Department of Performance and Media students with their presentation of “Salam Benua / Greetings to the Continent” by Usman Awang. The students put 7 weeks of their heart, body and soul to this rendition and dedicated it to their lecturers.

Professor Robert Bignall, Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University thanked our lecturers for shaping and inspiring the students with a passion while Ms Elizabeth Lee, Executive Director of Sunway Education Group thanked the lecturers for their perseverance and commitment throughout the years. She said, “Our success and milestones cannot be attained without you – you are the driving force behind education. It is through the dedication of our teaching staff that we are able to accomplish great achievements and our graduates are able to realize their dreams”.
Ms Jennifer Rathabai, SASA President invited Robert Murphy to the stage to share his experiences being a lecturer throughout his life. The lecturers were then entertained with a Singing performance by Azmil and Rajes from the Department of Performance and Media with original songs entitled, ‘In the Morning’ and ‘Lena’.

The lecturers who completed their Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (CAP) were awarded with certificates for their successful completion of their modules. Farid Hussein then presented a rhythmic performance using his Daft, an Iranian instrument.

The highlight of the day, the Award for Excellence in Teaching was granted to Woo Pei Jun, a lecturer from the Department of Psychology. Jun said, “I am very happy and honoured to be awarded the Award for Excellence in Teaching. I thank Sunway University and the selection committee for the award and my department for the nomination. I would also like to share this award with the Psychology department as we often exchange ideas and teaching practices with each other. We learn a lot from one another”.

The event ended with an energetic performance from Emily from ACCA and Johan from ADTP who put together a wonderful Latin Dance Performance.
