In its search for the most promising student artwork, Malaysian television station 8TV launched its first 8TV Quickie College Project roadshow at Sunway University. This project features a video competition that runs from 1st September 2014 till 28th November 2014, roadshows at various universities with talks and presentations by Media Prima employees sharing their work experience in the creative industry.
The project aims to cultivate aspiring content creators and graphic maestros. Participants of the competition can either submit a 3-minute video of any genre for the Content Creation category or a 10-20 second brand advertisement video about 8TV for the Graphic and Motion Arts category. Top 10 entries of the competition, which will be selected through 8TV and public votes, will be aired on the 8TV Quickie and 8TV commercial breaks in December.
Airin Zainul, a former Sunway student, is currently Group General Manager of 8TV and ntv7. Returning to her alma mater after about 20 years since her graduation, she said “I feel like I am home already. I am living proof that Sunway University is a great platform to explore and learn what you want and what you love. It is also an ideal place to discover new talent and I am looking forward to getting great creative work from Sunway students.”
Delving into different segments of the creative industry, Marini Ramlan, General Manager of Content Innovation, Digital and Animation Primeworks Studios talked about “International Co-Productions and Storytelling Techniques” while Shazreena Kassim, Producer of Showdown, The Shout! Awards and the 8TV Quickie of Primeworks Studios shared “Production: Creative Content”. Mohd Aidil, Graphic Designer, Creative Services Department of Media Prima Berhad presented “What is Design and How to Think Graphic”.
Amongst the audience were students from Sunway University’s Faculty of Arts. Summer Cheong, a Diploma in Multimedia Design and Graphics student, intends to pursue a degree in Mass Communications. “This event helps me know more about the creative industry where my passion lies,” she said.
The event concluded with Lee Weng Keng, Chief Executive Officer of Education and Healthcare Division, Sunway Group, Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway University and Sunway Education Group, Prof Graeme Wilkinson, Vice Chancellor of Sunway University and Prof Sion Llywd Hughes, Advisor to Dean and Professor of Faculty of Arts presenting tokens of appreciation, which were three portraits of 8TV senior management personnel done by Lisa Lee, Sunway University’s part time lecturer to the 8TV members.
