International Field Trip for Australian Students

Sunway University College’s Bachelor of Business twinning program with Victoria University (VU), recently hosted a total of 20 students from Victoria University, Melbourne with their lecturer, Mr. Roberto Bergami who visited as part of a study tour. This was a requirement for a field research project, where the students were expected to understand Malaysia’s role and stand in the international business arena. The international students were also exposed to the work environment in Sunway Group; Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall. The study tour had an agenda that matched industrial and cultural exposure with academic knowledge for the visiting students.

Sunway University College’s Business Club members offered a warm welcome to the students which was followed by a get to know you session over Malaysian- styled tea. Later, a forum was presented on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by the Commissioner of South East-Asia of the Victorian State Government of Australia, Mr. Tim Dillion and Mr. Amin Abdullah, Director of Corporate Communication of SME Corp Malaysia.

Anastasia Angelatos, a student from VU said she was excited to meet different people of different cultures and another student, Danny Chow was interested in getting to know Malaysia better especially from its international business perspective. Teo Hilyan, Sunway’s VU President said “The students were extremely confident and comfortable despite it being their first study trip”, When asked what was her impression of the students, Ummay Bengah, a member of the business club said “There were definitely a cultural difference which was obvious when questions were posed between the Australian and Malaysian students.

Based on the successful outcome of this visit, students from both Australia and Malaysia can look forward to more field trip visits in the near future.
