Sri Cempaka International School Interactors win Sunway Bursaries at National I-Quiz Competition

“We did not expect to win” said Lau Wai Keat of Team Insomniacs, who emerged Champion for the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway’s 7th Annual National Level I-Quiz Competition at Sunway University. The team members, Tai Kai Xin, Lau Wai Keat and Sean Teh Eu Gene of Sri Cempaka International School Kuala Lumpur, outshone other 169 teams through an exciting morning of trivia on general knowledge. They won themselves bursaries worth RM18,000 each to pursue further study at Sunway College or Sunway University.

Team S1 Zhi, Chong Jing Wen, Bong Ji Rong and Tay Yi Jiun of Kian Kok Middle School all the way from Kota Kinabalu came in second while Team Quantum’s Web, Arvinratnam Navaratnam, Lee Jian Hui and Siah Ren Jun of SMK Bandar Sunway came in third respectively. The students also won themselves partial bursaries to pursue studies at Sunway College or Sunway University. Six teams in total made it to the finals.

“A competition is a tremendous platform to spur improvement and Sunway University is proud to host this competition for the 7th consecutive year. We at Sunway hope that this competition will be an agent of change in motivating students to keep learning and enriching themselves. We hope to reinforce a curiosity to learn amongst students and at the same time sharpen their thirst for knowledge”, said Wong Lei Lei, Director of Marketing for Sunway Education Group.

“We are very grateful to Sunway, namely the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation for their continous support. This competition provides an opportunity for students to win bursaries to pursue further studies at Sunway”, said Francis Xavier, President of the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway.


The annual quiz, organised by the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway saw the participation of 170 teams, approximately 510 students of Interact Clubs from schools in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Penang, Johor and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
