Sunway University’s Actuarial Studies Gains Further Recognition

Sunway University and University of Kent signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently offering students pursuing Actuarial Studies in Sunway a chance to further their study abroad at the historical city of Canterbury.

Under the agreement, students studying in BSc (Hons) Actuarial Studies in Sunway University now have the option to continue their Year 2 and Year 3 studies in BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science at University of Kent.

Sunway University was represented by Ms Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group, Professor Pua Eng Chong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Associate Professor Dr Ho Chee Kit, Head, Department of Financial Mathematics & Statistics while Professor Alexandra Hughes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor External and Ms Fiona Jones, Alumni and Development Manager represented University of Kent.

The latest collaboration is one of Sunway University’s efforts to provide students access to some of the best institutions in the world. “We are committed to partnering with world-class universities so that our students have the opportunity to learn from the best and to gain valuable experience,” said Ms Elizabeth Lee.

Sunway University’s BSc (Hons) Actuarial Studies prepares students for professional examinations leading to qualified actuary status such as Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA), Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA), Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Fellow of Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA).

The actuarial programme at Sunway University and University of Kent is taught by industry professionals who bring their work and research experience into the classroom. Students will benefit from academics in the fields of statistics, pure mathematics and applied mathematics.

Asides from developing a core understanding of mathematical and statistical methods, the programme offers students opportunity to gain exemption from eight of the Core Technical Subjects of the professional examinations of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

University of Kent is ranked among the top thirty universities in the UK in the 2014 Complete University Guide and Guardian University Guide 2013. Its BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science is under the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science (SMSAS) at the Canterbury Campus, southeast of London. This programme is fully accredited by the UK Actuarial Profession.
