The students of the Language and Compulsory Subjects Centre of Sunway University recently organized a study-visit to one of the most memorable places in Malaysia, the Tunku Abdul Rahman Memorial recently. The purpose of this visit was to instill national patriotism and historical values in the hearts of the Malaysian studies students. The students were also required to take notes and conduct a research project on Tunku Abdul Rahman to assist them in completing their Malaysian studies project. There was a need for them to understand the late Prime Minister’s contribution to the Nation, his challenges in forging unity in order to achieve independence, his early life, vision and missions, Integration of Communities in Malaya, and the saddest moment in history, The May 13, 1968 racial riots.

The students felt the visit was exciting, educational and informative. They said they hardly knew this historical figure before the visit. After the visit they were more informed about his contributions and political achievements. They hoped to have longer visits in the future to make the study-visits more exciting.
