Sunway University’s accounting and finance programme gains maximum exemptions from CIMA

Sunway University and CIMA (the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), the world's largest professional body of management accountants that offers the most relevant finance qualification for business recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) where CIMA has accorded the maximum number of exemptions to Sunway’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Accounting and Finance programme. Graduates of this programme will receive the maximum 11 exemptions of the CIMA Professional Qualification in Management Accounting. Sunway University may also use the CIMAstudy.com online study material to complement classroom teaching.

The MoU was signed by Charles Tilley, Chief Executive of CIMA and Ms Elizabeth Lee, Executive Director of the Sunway Education Group. Witnessing the signing ceremony were Ms Irene Teng, Regional Director of CIMA South East Asia and Australasia, and Associate Professor Dr Foo Yin Fah, Head of the Sunway University Business School.

Ms Elizabeth Lee said, “We are very happy with the exemptions and hope to leverage CIMA’s global reach and experience to explore research in areas of common interest and align our programmes so that our graduates may take the CIMA pathway to be relevant in today’s fast changing world. I believe we stand equal in our aspirations and together as partners, we will shape graduates with creativity, imagination, leadership and analytical skills and who can make purposeful contributions in industry’

Charles Tilley who was confident with this partnership said in his welcome address, “ CIMA is pleased that Sunway University’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Accounting and Finance programme has been accredited with 11 exemptions, showing its relevance with CIMA. This means that graduates with this degree can enter directly to the strategic level of the CIMA Professional Qualification in Management Accounting. This is indeed a fast track to being a CIMA member or a CIMA Chartered Management Accountant who is recognised worldwide by key employers for unique skills in finance and business. We prepare our members to be focused on the future - driving value, managing performance, understanding how organisations are best led and inspired, and helping to sustain vibrant business and government.’
