A public tweet-like environment

Recently the School of Computer Technology, Sunway University was pushed to the limelight when their team of lecturers won a silver medal at the Malaysia Technology Expo 2012 with their research project, “Zmedia-eMall Integrated Framework”. The team members were lecturers Assoc. Prof Dr Lim Tong Ming, Chin Teck Min, Choong Yoong Liang and Angela Lee. Undergraduate students from the B.Sc (Hons) Information Technology helped in the project.

The Zmedia project which utilizes peer-to-peer and media broadcasting technology allows people to send media and text messages through their mobiles and smartphones to LCDs creating a public tweet-like environment where the young and young-at-heart can share knowledge and information. This can be used in offices, buses and shopping malls.

The Head of the School of Computer Technology at Sunway University, Assoc. Professor Dr Lim Tong Ming said “An open academic environment was created when students had a chance to be exposed to the ZMedia project which was a real world application that utilized the latest technology and trends”.
