Sunway students’ WHAT bazaar in aid of Women

Following the biggest trend in town, Sunway University’s Diploma in Events Management students organised a bazaar to raise money for women who are suffering from mental, emotional and physical abuse and financial issues. The event titled WHAT Baazar, that stood for Women Hoping for A better Tomorrow showcased a range of activities that were fashion and art centred.

Held at Jaya One, some of the activities that took place included the fashion show, live bands, make-up tutorials, martial arts demonstrations, talks, lucky draws and interviews with celebrities such as Sazzy Falak and Dina Nadzir. According to the Head of Sponsorship of the project, Dayangku Selviah, the interview with both these celebrities were enlightening and fun. “Just five minutes into the interview with these amazing personalities was enough to give us insights into how these modern women stayed fabulous despite their hectic lifestyles,” she quipped. Sazzy and Dina also shared their thoughts on society today and shared some advice to listeners.

Another main highlight of the bazaar was the fashion show that was supported by several famous online blog shops such as XOOKAH, Owlch That Hoots, Dreamscape by Casey, Nakalicious, Sista Closet and Windwheel Garden Shop. Guests who attended the bazaar were excited about the fashion show and lit up the ambience, the moment the models took to the runway.

A make-up tutorial presented by Bobbi Brown was also one of the main highlights of the event, which was highly anticipated by guests. Titled ‘Instant Pretty Make-up’, the workshop taught guests how to accentuate their features with simple and natural make-up.

Students worked closely with All Women’s Action Society Malaysia (AWAM), an independent feminist organisation in Malaysia committed to ending gender-based violence and upholding equality and rights for all. All proceeds from the project will be donated to this organisation.

Sunway University’s Diploma in Events Management’s lecturer and advisor of the project, Adeline Kok said “Guests of the bazaar were happy as they could eat, play and shop all at the same time while contributing to society at the bazaar. It is encouraging to know that people genuinely care for the society and we should not stop hoping for a better tomorrow.” She added that the project has not only benefited the community but also given the events student an opportunity to exude skills and knowledge that they have learnt into this practical and hands-on project.
