Sunway University Alumni Get Up Close and Personal

Sunway University’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) welcomed its alumni members back recently for a sharing session with students. The informal gathering was meant to encourage networking and the exchanging of ideas. The working alumni were provided an opportunity to share insights of where they are in their careers and what they are doing. This opportunity indirectly serves as an avenue for them, the alumni to act as mentors to the students and to build relationships, creating a mutual benefit for all parties.

Professor Peter Heard, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Enterprise and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, in his welcome speech said, “Universities measured in a number of ways and the most common is the quality of research like Harvard, Cambridge and Oxford which are seen as top world class universities due to the quality and volume of research work conducted at these institutions. But I think what makes these universities stand out is the achievement of their graduates.”

“So it will be with the careers that you will go on to develop and the achievements that you will have in the years to come and marks the success of Sunway University. I’m sure you will all go on to have long and successful careers. Some of you will become leaders in your chosen fields. The seeds are already there with the achievements you have made so far, this is the positive synergy of Sunway University with its students and graduates, and we hope you will continue to share that success with us”, he elaborated.

Aloysius Ang who recently graduated with first class honours in BSc (Hons) in Information Technology, is the co-founder of Munchketeers, a site dedicated to technology and food reviews. His advice to students, “What you learn in university is important because when you go out to work, you will find and understand that the fundamentals learned in university is important and related to your job”.
