Varsity Run raises RM24,000

The Run for GOLD Charity Marathon organised by the Sunway University Business School (SUBS) Student Concilium recently was a runaway success judging from the over 1000 participants who turned up on a Sunday morning recently at 7 am to clean the 7 km route starting from and ending at the Graduate Centre, Sunway University. Funds raised amounted to RM24,000 which was donated to GOLD, a special class of students with learning disabilities. GOLD stands for Generating Opportunities for the Learning Disabled and is located at Komplex 3C in Bandar Sunway.

The participants included 15 GOLD special students, students of Sunway University and other institutions, staff and the public. The Top 10 finishers in the men’s and women’s categories each received a medal and a T-shirt.

The Sunway students who came in among the top 3 finishers were:- ACCA student, Rubeinthiran Gunasegaram who came in Third in the Men’s category, with a time of 30 minutes 42 seconds and Thato Kontle, a Victoria University twinning degree student who emerged Champion in the Women’s category, finishing in 40 minutes 4 seconds.

The Champion in the Men’s category was Moumen Khider from Sudan who is a student of Universiti Kuala Lumpur who finished in 28 minutes 37 seconds. Second place for the Men’s was Gunaselan Rajagopal. Second and third places in the Women’s category were Pattelyn Lee Jia Yan and Heng Sue Lim respectively.

Lee Ying Ying, a SUBS student and President of SUBS Student Concilium said “As there are only 3 years of university life, I feel that this project was meaningful and certainly groomed me into someone who is perhaps more mature and more prepared for a future career. The event was challenging but it was definitely worth pursuing”.
