Sunway Resort City To Become 100% Smoke-Free

At the official launch of the Malaysian Blue Ribbon Campaign held recently at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Group Founder and Chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah announced that Sunway Resort City is joining the global initiative to curb smoking by moving towards becoming a Smoke-Free Township.

Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah pledges his right to clean air witnessed by Minister of Health Malaysia Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai , WHO Representative to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei, Dr Graham Harrison, CEO of Malaysia Health Promotion Board, Datuk Dr Yahya Baba and Deputy Director General (Public Health), Datuk Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaimman

He also shared that Sunway Group has always been a consistent and active advocator of smoke-free environment. In addition to making Sunway Medical Centre, Menara Sunway, Sunway Pyramid, Sunway University and Monash University Sunway Campus smoke-free establishments, the Group regularly conducts public health talks to its 12,000 employees on the dangers of tobacco smoke at Sunway Medical Centre.

The Malaysian Blue Ribbon Campaign is initiated and driven by the Malaysian Health Promotion Board (MySihat), a statutory body under the Ministry of Health. Besides creating awareness on the health hazards of secondhand smoke, the Campaign also aims to recognise and honour individuals or organisations for saving peoples' lives from exposure to secondhand smoke.

Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Health Malaysia awarded the Blue Ribbon Certificate to Ms. Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director, Sunway Education Group

At the launch, Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway University and Monash University Sunway Campus were among the first 16 establishments to be awarded the Blue Ribbon Certificate. The certificate is given by MySihat on an on-going basis, and recognises the efforts made to implement smoke-free indoor and/or environments.

Blue Ribbon is an international campaign introduced by the World Health Organization (WHO) to recognise and acknowledge people and organisations working to implement and support the WHO Framework Convention provision on Article 8 (protection from exposure of tobacco smoke).
