“Sunway University is a global village. Among you, our students are representatives from many countries. As members of the Student Council, you are their representatives and their spokesperson, their “official voice”. You will need to help them share their ideas, interests and concerns, and represent them to the best of your abilities”, said Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group addressing the Sunway Student Council at the recent installation ceremony.

Vice-President Regina Lee Jin Nah, the rose among the thorns on the Student Council said, “By being elected and becoming part of the student council, I have the ability to do more than just complain or suggest improvements without getting it to anywhere. I am able to be proactive and make things happen, instead of waiting for them to happen to me. Apart from that, the experience of handling a team, organizing events, meeting, negotiating and speaking to people from the upper management, there are all part of the pros of being elected as one of the members of the student council. You grow through all these experiences.” Lee is currently in her second year of BA (Hons) Communication, majoring in Corporate Communication.

For Ng Chian Pin, newly elected Treasurer “After being a part of Student Council, I realized that most of the students in Sunway University do not know the purpose of Student Council and how much it affects them. Thus, I would like the students to know that we, Sunway University Student Council is the link bridge between them and management, the window of complaints and place to seek for solutions and will do so by being a role model for Sunway University Student Council.” Ng, who is also pursuing his second year in BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, previously served the Student Council 2013 in a different capacity.

Another who had previously served is John Yeoh Guan Aik who is also in his second year, pursuing his BSc (Hons) Psychology. This time, serving as the General Secretary, he believes that “My position as general secretary will test and improve my organization skills as well as my communication skills as my position requires me to constantly inform as well update my fellow council members on any news regarding the Student Council”.

The Sunway University Student Council is the governing body for the Sunway University Student Association. Their responsibilities include voicing out student opinions, handling of important issues on campus and helping the management in executing various objectives.
