Engineering options at University of Auckland for Sunway students

A double signing ceremony between Sunway University, Sunway College and the University of Auckland was held recently at the Sunway Campus. Sunway University’s American Degree Transfer Programme (ADTP) and Sunway College’s Pre-University Studies Programme signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Engineering, University of Auckland to include an option for engineering students from both institutions to study in the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Professor Pua Eng Chong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University said in his welcome speech, “Sunway hopes to establish a channel for students interested in pursuing their studies in the field of Engineering to progress into the University of Auckland after two years of study at Sunway University. University of Auckland is a world-class university and I am sure this collaboration will make our programmes, especially our ADTP programme more competitive and attractive for prospective students in the future.”

Professor Michael Davies, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Auckland said in response to Professor Pua’s speech, “I am very keen that we should develop this link. There is so much opportunity here. Although New Zealand is a small country, with a population size of 4 ½ million, we are very proud to be a world-class university. As we have a large population of students and a big university by international standards, we emphasise the importance of having links throughout the world to build on the knowledge of our economy and to collaborate in research. This is the first step in a long and enjoyable walk for both our institutions.”

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading university and is the only university ranked among the world’s top 200 universities by the Times Higher Education World Rankings of Universities 2011-2012. It is also the highest ranked New Zealand University according to the QS World University Rankings and the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities.

The agreement signing took place with Professor Pua Eng Chong signing on behalf of the ADTP, Sunway University while Mr Teo Ee Sing, Executive Director for Sunway College represented Pre-University Studies, Sunway College. Professor Micheal Davies who is also the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Tamaki Innovation Campus, University of Auckland signed on behalf of The University of Auckland for both agreements.
