Sunway University Treats Teachers to a Special Tropical Hawaiian Paradise

In conjunction with Teachers Day, Sunway University treated 131 teachers, principals and counsellors from several schools around the Klang Valley to a special afternoon of “Tropical Hawaiian Paradise”.

The event was organised by students from the Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Management (CTHCM). They transformed the University Hall into a tropical paradise for the luau (traditional Hawaiian feast). Guests were greeted with a lei (necklace of flower) each, warm smiles and the spirit of Aloha, complete with hula dancers.

The event was to honour dedicated members of the teaching profession, for their tireless contribution, hard work and support throughout the years.

“Your work today shapes the future. In your classrooms now are our future leaders, doctors, lawyers, economists and policy makers. So therefore, the responsibility of shaping the leaders of tomorrow lies in your hands”, said Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group in addressing the teachers.

The occasion provided a good opportunity for the CTHCM students as they were given a chance for a hands-on learning experience in organising the event. They were tasked with planning, managing finance and preparing the decorations, and food.

“Even though leading and managing an event is not a simple task but we managed it as all our team members cooperated well to ensure the success of the event”, said Kulieva Dinara, Project Manager for the event. Her fellow colleague, Lim Jung Min, Finance Manager added “Budgetary control is not easy, therefore, we emphasized on teamwork, communication within the team and between each teams to work effectively and efficiently”. Both students are currently pursuing their Diploma in Hotel Management.

Guests were also encouraged to pose for photographs at the various backdrops complete with props, all prepared and manned by CTHCM students to win a prize for the best photo of the day. Guests also participated in games such as Coconut Bowling and the Limbo Rock dance.
